John Shirley, Account Manager

John is a versatile and results-driven communications professional with more than 15 years’ experience across the education, finance, infrastructure, real estate, technology, advertising and news media industries.

Prior to joining BBS Communications Group, John was a senior communications advisor for global infrastructure giant AECOM, where he developed and delivered effective, targeted internal and external communications across Australia, New Zealand and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

John began his communications journey as a cadet journalist with Rural Press in regional South Australia, where he quickly rose to the role Sports Editor at the age of 24. In 2005, John relocated to Queensland where he worked in the education sector, before joining a prominent Gold Coast-based advertising agency. He was then asked to serve as Managing Editor for Lifestyle Investor – a glossy bimonthly feature magazine circulated to a national audience. John was not only the primary feature writer, but also managed regular contributors and the needs of high profile corporate, retail and celebrity clients.

John is also well-versed in creating content for the property sector, having served as PRDNationwide’s Communications Manager in 2013-14, where he achieved more than 200 unique appearances in metropolitan newspapers, industry publications and online e-magazines.
